Conquered: Mt Lubog

Mt. Lubog is located in Sitio Lubog, Brgy. Puray, Rodriguez (formerly known as Montalban), Rizal. This territory was just recently open to the public. Rated by Pinoy Mountaineer as of yet but based here, it is at 915+ MASL. Standing at 955 MASL based from Pinoy Mountaineer's latest climb, a 3/9 difficulty, the hike to the top is easy but the trail isn't friendly for beginners.  With a trail class 1-3, it is an hour trek to the summit.

A panoramic shot viewing Metro Manila from afar
The adventure starts from the moment you hop on to ride the habal-habal. A very rocky road will welcome you and a few off the tricycle adventure due to steepness up hill course for two hours. Along the way, you will also enjoy breathtaking scenery of green open trail mountain tops. On your left, you will have a clear view of Mt. Balagbag, the mountain which has a scarcity of trees. Just ready yourself with some awesome and thrilling habal-habal ride.

From the foot of Mt. Lubog at Sitio Lubog
An assault trail leads you to the top with green vegetation of moss, ferns and trees. It would be compared to Mt Palay-palay's trail (Pico de Loro) with a lot of rock formations and huge boulders along the way in which you are required to use your hands.

"Privately Owned" Boulders at the jump off

Exterior of Lubog Cave
After 15 mins of hike, you will reach the first stop to rest. Adjacent to it would be a big boulder, seems like, but an entrance to the cave. It has three levels open to public. Not only that you get to hike but you can also do some of spelunking. The temperature is way cooler inside. It is a dry cave, thus you hardly see some stalactites and stalagmites. Fruit Bats and "Balinsasayaw" nest this place.

The View from the Rocky Summit of Mt. Lubog
After an hour hike up to the top, the spiky rock formation on the summit will greet you. Wearing gloves and footwear with thick soles can greatly be of help to anyone.

Conquered Mt Lubog
The summit's peak offers a scenic view from atop. From here, you are also overlooking Mt. Makiling from a distance.

Fun fact 1: It is said that this is where Andres Bonifacio hid during the time he was hunted.
Fun fact 2: Locals speak mixed Bisaya, Hiligaynon and Kiniray-a. Origin of the people here are from Aklan
Fun fact 3: It's their custom to carry a machete. You would see each grown man belted on their hips.

Side trip:

Spelunking in Lubog Cave
Allot at least 15-30 minutes in exploring the cave.

Loner Bat

Panintingan Falls

A water basin which is a 20 minutes walk from the jump off. This flowing water is a natural source of fresh water fish for the locals. They say it is 10 ft deep. If you hardly know how to swim, it is highly recommended to be at least within 2 meters from the land.

Daredevil enough? Try diving from the inclined tree.

    3. You're welcome. if you are alone, you may want to ride a motorcycle. there are a few you can rent. though i may not be able to give you a quote. try to contact Kagawad Peter, he may help you get a ride. The mode of transpo by the locals there is the motorcycle.

    1. Hi Marvin,
Im sorry but i dont have any contact other than Sir Peter. He is the only kagawad in the area who oversee the place. i am not sure if they allow walk in but there are hardly tricycle which transport passengers as it is too far from the main road. most of the locals their has their own motorcycle whch they use as their primary transpo. I dont recommend it though, but you can give it a shot if you want.
