Food Hub: Neko No Niwa

As I am a fan of the japanese pop culture, I am in delight of themed cafes. As my friends and I were strolling Clark Quay in Singapore last December, we happened to passed by a "Cat cafe". We did not let the chance slipped to experience the fun it can bring, we seized it that day.

Frankly speaking, I personally am not a cat lover but you can't help not to cuddle and play with the kawaii nekos (cute cats). The cafe serves coffee and frappe blends and pastries. By the time you get there, you should first stay at the waiting area. You need to take off your shoes and wash you hands. They also have lockers where you leave your shoes. Once you are already to get inside the play pen, you will be briefed by the house rules of one of their hosts.

The House Rules

  • Don't bring you shoes in the play area.
  • Don't pull the feline's tail.
  • Don't feed the cats.
  • Don't pinch them.
  • Don't carry them.
  • Don't disturb them when they are sleeping.
These are not the exact verbiage for their house rules. So far, these were the things that stuck on my mind. Rules 2-6 are the once I tried to break. That's what you get when you don't read the manual. :)

The household

These cats were abandoned by their owners. Lucky them, they were cared and adopted by the Cafe owner who is an ultimate cat lover. There are different breed of cats, too bad I'm not familiar with them. The only thing i know is a Siamese cat which they don't have. It was mid afternoon when we came. All of the cats were either sleeping or purring in one corner or inside their cushions. It was a drizzling afternoon and all cats were lazy. The shop handed over a brochure that has all the bios of cats they have in the cafe. Their names and their origins are well laid out. There are over 10 cats but I only get a few snapshots since most of them are well hidden on their respective boxes and cushions.

The Rates

As of December 2014, the cuddle charge is $12 for the first hour. Additional $5 per succeeding half hour. They serve coffee and hot chocos as well as blended frappes. The cost ranges from $3-$5. Their cakes ranges from $5-$6.
Converted to Php, they are pretty expensive. The place also has free wifi, might as well take advantage of the super-speed connection.

Overall, it was one great Cat-terrific experience. I wouldn't give it a second thought to visit this place again.
